PRODEXPO is the largest international trade show of foodstuffs in Russia.

The PRODEXPO’2006 International Exhibition of Foodstuffs and Food Raw Materials has ended. Being one of the most large-scale exhibition events in Russia and Eastern European countries, PRODEXPO showed development tendencies of the global food market. It also enabled manufacturing and trading companies to build up useful business contacts and diversify the range of foodstuffs to be offered next year.

The steadily growing number of participants, including overseas ones, is clear proof of a high international status of the Exhibition that carries the UFI and IUEF labels.

As in the preceding years, the PRODEXPO’2006 exposition was arranged thematically, reflecting qualitative and quantitative changes of the domestic market. On an area of 39 913 sq m there was a complete range of food products presented. Also, there took place a specialized Salon of Auxiliary Equipment, Packaging and Services.

It is the fist time in the PRODEXPO Exhibition history that a Salon of Natural Food Products has been staged. This important subject will be developed during the next year exhibition entitled “Healthy food. Harmonious life”

An ever-growing number of the exhibition major characteristics provide evidence of the rising prestige and rating of the event. 2 144 companies from 61 countries participated in PRODEXPO’2006. Exhibitors from 30 countries presented their national expositions. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Tadzhikistan, Slovakia, Uruguay and Uzbekistan participated in the Exhibition on the federal level for the first time. French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish and Spanish stands were by far the biggest. The Exhibition was attended by 96 000 people.

PRODEXPO’2006 reflected an increasing interest in the expositions of the Russian participants whose number reached 1 322 (over 60% of all the exhibitors). The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation created the largest exposition presenting over 200 participants from various regions of Russia.

The PRODEXPO’2006 Exhibition was accompanied by an intensive conference programme.

It was the first time that the All-Russian Trade Forum - The Strategic Challenges of the Russian Trade in the 21st Century - had taken place. It allowed domestic and overseas suppliers to meet Russia’s leading retailers. Over 50 trade networks representatives from all over Russia participated in the Forum. Within the framework of the event there worked a negotiation centre, where meetings with top managers and representatives of Russian trade networks and hypermarkets were held.

The All-Russian Food Forum was no less significant. Its participants got an opportunity to analyze the situation in various fields of the food industry and to obtain information about marketing, sales and personnel management techniques. In the context of the event the organizers first held the international conference Beverages – PRO: Professionals of the industry dwell upon the problems of production and promotion of beverages on the Russian market. One of the main conference events was the First All-Russian Congress of Regional Alcoholic Beverages Distributors. It was aimed at allowing regional wholesalers to exchange opinions about the situation on the alcoholic beverages market that occurred after the amended law on alcoholic beverages turnover had come into effect. The Congress also enabled the participants to forecast the nearest development prospects and mechanisms of the alcohol regional distribution.
The announcement of the results of Russia’s most prestigious alcoholic beverages tasting competition, organized by Expocentre and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was timed to coincide with the PRODEXPO Exhibition. This year winemakers from Austria, Finland, France, Portugal and Spain became contest laureates. Among the best Russian winemakers awarded were Alexandrovskiy likerovodochniy zavod (Alexandrov Distillery), Ufimskiy LVZ (Ufa Distillery), Bastovan, Veda, Veles, Vitebskiy LVZ (Vitebsk Distillery), Dionis, Dayros, Interwine, Istok, Kin Moscow Konyachniy zavod (Kin Moscow Cognac factory), Kaluzhskiy AO Kristall, Kristall Lefortovo, Kuban’ Wine and others.

According to the results of the tasting, held by The Russian Vodka Journal in association with fourteen Russian editions, VVP vodka was named the Vodka of the Year.

Expocentre and ANO SOYUZEXPERTIZA of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation ran a contest entitled “For High-quality Food Products” to discover high quality foodstuffs produced in Russia and abroad as well as ones imported into this country. The winners of the contest were awarded special prizes and diplomas.

Within the framework of the PRODEXPO’2006 Exhibition there was a round table held, whose theme was “The Foodstuffs Quality. Biological and Chemical Safety”.

During the exhibition designers, producers and consumers of food packaging had an opportunity to compete in the First ProdExtraPak contest for the best food package.
