Green products as a upcoming trend of the Russian agriculture industry

12 / 02 / 2020

The Panel on Green Products as an Upcoming Trend of a Healthy Lifestyle and a Way to Prevent Greenwashing, organised by Roskachestvo and Expocentre AO, took place during Prodexpo 2020.

The discussion addressed a broad range of issues related to food security, environmental protection, and the role played by agriculture in this process.

“The sustainable development programme meets the goals of the Russian state policy, and the formation of a separate, export-oriented and promising sector of green products is being promoted to foster the healthy lifestyle and environmental protection,” said Deputy Head of ANO Russian Quality System Elena Sarattseva who moderated the discussion.

“The supply of organic products will be limited due to the strict production requirements,” said Larisa Naumova, Deputy Director of the Russian Agriculture Ministry’s Department of Scientific and Technological Policy and Education. “For the purpose of meeting the high demand for eco-products, it would be necessary to create an additional segment of green products, which would be oriented at mass consumption, affordable, and of better quality.”

The ministry representative dwelt on state regulation of the emerging green industry and protection of consumers from mala fide manufacturers, so-called greenwashers. The development of a normative and legislative basis for the green brand is the government’s primary task. Standardization will be the main form of regulating production of green products. Russian standards must meet the global level, and the standardization procedure must be liberalized.

Deputy Head of the German-Russian Agro-Political Dialogue Alexander Dyagilev told the audience about the European experience in green agricultural production. The discussion involved representatives of Russian agricultural companies that have experience in this field.
