Prodexpo 2021: society needs development of organic products

A panel “Legitimacy of Organic Products. The first year results of the Federal Law on Organic Products” has been held within the Prodexpo 2021 international exhibition opened at Expocentre Fairgrounds. The event was organised by Roskachestvo, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and EXPOCENTRE AO.

For the first time this year, the leading industry experts gathered offline to discuss issues of the organic industry. Sergey Belousov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy, and Environmental Management, Maksim Uvaidov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Elena Saratseva, Deputy Head of Roskachevo, Dmitry Krasnov, Head of the Agroexport Federal Centre, as well as representatives of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rosselkhozbank and industry unions took part in the discussion. 

Sergey Belousov, addressing the panel participants via video link, thanked organisers for holding this discussion within the Prodexpo 2021 exhibition which, he said, was the major event for the whole food industry. 

He noted that production of organic goods was still a new field for Russia. Domestic producers are making first steps in this business. “Meanwhile, there is a great number of local goods which can and should be promoted as unique regional brands of organic products. And Prodexpo is a vivid proof of that”, the senator stressed.   

In his turn, Maxim Uvaidov reminded that a year ago the Federal Law on Organic Products came into force and the first good results have already been seen. "63 companies are involved in organic production, and we will soon have 100 certificates issued under our accreditation system. We can confidently say that the start has been made," said the Deputy Minister. 

The panel participants discussed organic production development and prospects in Russia, infrastructure of the Russian organic market and measures to support its export. During the discussion, a presentation of new banking products for producers of organic products took place. A new concept of organic export was presented. 

Another major event for the organic sector took place today - a conference “Organic Products: New Meanings and Value for the Public”, organised by the LookBio Info Portal and EXPOCENTRE AO.

The industry professionals considered advantages of products, different aspects of organics development in plant and animal production, and other topics. Foreign colleagues shared their views and experience via video link. Among them are Peggy DeMorrow Miares, President of IFOAM International and Gerald Herrmann, a major German organic expert.

At the end of the conference the Prodexpo Organic awarding ceremony was held for the companies presented the best organic products at the Prodexpo 2021 exhibition.
